SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser.
We highly recommend all stores have SSL Encryption for their sites as a best practice for e-commerce. SSL ensures that secure credit card information isn't compromised for your customers. Lack of SSL certificate can also affect Springbot tracking, as it directs customers to a secure URL at checkout that is not your main site URL (i.e., https://store-dzgza3m.mybigcommerce.com/cart.php).
Whether you are using Magento, Magento2, Shopify, or BigCommerce, keeping your customer's payment information secure should be a top priority!
If you are using Magento or Magento 2, you will need to get the SSL certificate from a 3rd-party tool and activate for your store.
If you are using Shopify, click here for instructions about activating an SSL certificate for your store.
If you are using BigCommerce, you have the option to add in an SSL certificate right through them, but you do have to pay for it. You can find more information about that here.
If you would like to go through a 3rd party tool that's free, one that we recommend can be found here.
Then, you're able to go through BigCommerce and add the 3rd party SSL so that you don't have to pay for it - those instructions can be found here.
