When your team first installed Springbot, we pulled in your customers’ data and created a few prebuilt Customer Segments that you can use right away. These are meant to inspire you to create even more in-depth Customer Segments of your own!
Our Custom Segment builder includes several different criteria points for you to explore, and you can select as many as you'd like to a single segment -- the possibilities are endless! You'll also be able to directly target customers in these segments when sending out Email Campaigns and Newsletters.
Create a Custom Segment
First, select Reports at the top of your dashboard and then Segments. You'll then click on the Create Segment button in the top right corner.

Here is where you will name your segment. Be sure to name your segment something that you can use to easily identify why you made this segment and what it is used for.
Along this page you will see there are several different criteria options for you to choose from. You can combine as many different criteria options as you'd like, but keep in mind that as you continue adding in different criteria, the number of customer matches will begin to get smaller. Be careful to not over-segment as you may not end up with very many results!

These are some of the most common criteria points, and are a good place to start when you're first creating segments to learn more about your customers. All demographic criteria is collected from your store and matched by our partner, Tower Data.
- Customer Attributes (not every store will have Customer Attributes, as this greatly depends on how you have your store data organized in your eCommerce store)
- Subscriber Attributes - Subscriber Attributes are the details you collect on subscribers via Springbot sign up forms.
This data is collected from customer checkout information and is pulled from their on-file payment information.
- State / Province
This is one of the more robust criteria sections and allows you to create segments based off of the purchase information of your customers.
- Average Order Value (AOV)
- Total Order Value
- Number of Orders
- Date of First Order
- Days Since Last Order
- Date of Any Order
- Registered vs. Guest Checkout
This information is pulled directly from your eCommerce store based on Product Criteria that your customers purchased.
- Product Attributes (not every store will have Product Attributes, as this greatly depends on how you have your store data organized in your eCommerce store)
- Accepts Marketing (Allows you to segment customers by the "accepts marketing" or "does not accept marketing" status in your eCommerce store and Springbot Email Lists.)

Save Your Choices!
After you've selected all your criteria points, click Save at the bottom right.
Once you select Save, Springbot will dive into your entire customer list to see who meets all the criteria that you have selected. We’ll add these customers to the segment you've created.
1) How long will it take for my segment to build?
Typically, it takes 5-15 minutes for Springbot to comb through your data and finalize a new segment (depending on how much store data you have). If it is taking an extra long time, contact the Springbot Customer Success Team at email@example.com so they can look into it!
2) I have created a segment. Now what?
Now you can not only view the full breakdown of this segment on the Customer Segments page (including high level metrics, demographic data and a sales trends graph) but you can also send an Email Campaign to this segment as well!
3) Can I upload a CSV file as a segment?
You sure can! Go to Reports and then click Segments. In the top right, you will click the button that says Upload Segment. This is a great please to upload a list that you already have segmented, or perhaps a collection of email addresses you gathered at a trade show or in-store event.
