What is a Winback Flow?

Our Winback Flow is a great way to re-engage shoppers who have purchased from you in the past, but haven't bought from you recently. With this email you can automatically reach back out to them, and perhaps even offer a discount code to entice them to return.

Our Winback template includes the following actions:

- An email that sends out 180 days after their last purchase
- A conditional email based on purchase criteria that sends out 30 days later if they have not made a purchase since receiving the 180 day email.

Below we will show you how to edit these emails & turn them on so you can start seeing value!

Editing & Activating Your First Winback Email 

First you will want to hover over the Automations tab at the top, select Dashboard & then click into the Winback flow under the Automations table.

Click on the Trigger Step that says "When someone...". You will see that this flow is triggered when a customer goes 180 days without making a purchase from you. You can edit the timing of this action on the left-hand side.

Next, click into the Action Step. This action is the first email that will be sent in this flow sequence. On the left, you have the ability to rename this email (for internal purposes) - you can also edit the subject line, preheader text & other settings.

To edit the content of your email, click on the pen & paper icon on the left side. The first Winback email is a great opportunity to re-engage this customer by offering a promo code or by highlighting your new arrivals. There is placeholder text for a promo code in this email template, so you'll want to be sure and edit this email!


Remember, when editing these emails you don't have to include your logo/nav bar or footer information because those branding elements will automatically be applied via our Master Template. For information editing your Master Template, check out this article. 

This template also includes Product Recommendations that you can use to cross-sell other products. To activate these, click into the Product Recommendations module, and click into Product Filters under Component Settings on the right side: 

From there, you can choose which category of products you want displayed. Please note: Your Product Recommendations won't populate in the editor, but you can see an example by choosing the preview button in the bottom left corner! 

Once you're done editing this email, click Save and Exit to continue on to the second email of this flow!

Editing & Activating Your Second Winback Email 

Continuing through this flow, the next action will be taken 30 days later. This step splits your flow into 2 distinct paths, based on whether the recipient made a purchase since receiving the first Winback email. 

  • If the recipient made a purchase since receiving the previous email in this flow, the flow ends and no additional action will be taken. 
  • If the recipient did not make a purchase from the previous email in this flow, they will be sent another email.

To edit your second email, click into the second action step and select the pen and paper icon. We recommend switching up the Subject Line, Preheader Text, and overall design for this email to make it stand apart from your previous email! This email template also has placeholder text for a promo code, so remember to include the same promo code offered in the previous email! 

Lastly, click save at the top and be sure to toggle this flow ON to begin sending!
